Getting adequate treatment for your sleep apnea issues is important to get deep, sound sleep and prevent potential health issues. However, anyone can be affected by sleep apnea, but it is more common among older men who are overweight. At our practice, we are dedicated to providing excellent and compassionate sleep apnea treatment services. Our experts will recommend a lifestyle change, sleeping device, or surgical procedure to help treat your sleep apnea issues.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a severe sleep disorder caused by the continual collapse of the top airway during slumber. Here are some symptoms of sleep apnea

  • If you are experiencing loud snoring
  • If you find yourself gasping for air during slumber
  • Regular daytime headache
  • Finding it difficult to stay asleep

Procedure for Treating Sleep Apnea

At our practice, we perform nasal surgery, upper airway surgery, maxillomandibular advancement, and a tracheostomy to treat sleep apnea.

Nasal Surgery: During our nasal surgery treatment, we carry out operations to improve airflow through the nose, such as the discarding of turbinates, or nasal polyps or, correcting a drifted nasal septum, does not cure sleep apnea but might enhance daytime and night-time breathing through the nose and might allow better use of favorable airway pressure.

Upper Airway Surgery: The most popular operation in our upper airway surgery is called uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), this operation strives to expand the airway behind the patient’s tongue by taking out extra tissue from the sides of the patient’s throat behind the tongue, reducing the soft palate, and taking out the uvula.

Maxillomandibular Advancement: During our maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) treatment, the lower and upper jaw are surgically cracked, and both are pushed forward to widen the airway. Nevertheless, the operation is generally more complex than UPPP and requires a much longer recovery time.

Tracheostomy: Our tracheostomy is a surgically created hole in the trachea beneath the level of the voice box or larynx. This bypasses the location of the obstruction in sleep apnea. People with a tracheostomy for sleep apnea insert the opening during the day, allowing them to speak usually, but take out the plug for sleep.
